“Business interruption” insurance provides money for lost income during the time required to repair physical damage resulting from a hurricane. Business interruption insurance is intended to return to the insured’s business the amount of profit it would have earned had there been no interruption of the business.
To qualify, usually a business must have had this insurance and suffered some sort of property damage that resulted in a loss of operations. A business also usually must have an established track record of revenue and profits. To support this type of claim, a business usually needs an accountant and attorney who are conversant with this type of claim.
Note for the inexperienced: in cases where there are extensive power outages and no property damage, usually interruptions are not covered.
As always, we recommend keeping accurate records and a log book of who you speak with at every step of the claim process.
